Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect when I contact you?

When you contact us, we can arrange a time to speak over the phone for a free phone consultation, usually lasting about 15 minutes. This call gives us a chance to hear more about your interest in services and what you are seeking help for, as well as to discuss scheduling, fees, available clinicians, and logistics.

If we agree to meet in person, the first 1-2 sessions are typically used to get to know each other and to conduct a thorough assessment of your current concerns and relevant history. During that time we will also spend time clarifying your goals and creating a specific plan for treatment. These sessions are an important opportunity for us to determine whether we will be a good fit working together on an ongoing basis.

Individual psychotherapy sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are typically weekly in frequency. Couples sessions will typically last 60 minutes.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy depends on a number of factors. Some people may benefit from a short course of treatment (8-12 sessions) for specific problems. It is not uncommon for therapy to be longer in duration to address complex issues or multiple problems. As part of our initial sessions we will discuss the course and length of treatment and we will re-evaluate your needs periodically.

Do you take insurance?

We are in-network for the NYU Wellfleet/Comprehensive Health Plan (CHP) and New School Student Insurance Plan (UHCSR). While we are not on any other insurance panels, we are happy to assist you with out-of-network benefits. Many insurance plans will cover 50-80% of out-of-network costs. During our initial call we can discuss this process.

What are your rates?

During our initial call we will discuss our practice rates. If you have concerns about fees or if our services are at a rate that you cannot afford, we will help you with referrals and connect you to alternate providers. Our practice is able to offer a limited number of sliding scale slots, based on financial need, on a case-by-case basis.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Cash, Check, and Zelle. We can also work to help you use your HSA/FSA benefits toward our sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please provide as much notice as possible if you cannot make a session or need to re-schedule, so we can offer the slot to another individual. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours of notice will be charged in full.

Do you prescribe medications?

We do not prescribe medications, but we are happy to assist with a referral to an appropriate psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner if it appears that you would benefit from psychiatric medication.
